Reizen is niet altijd van A naar B gaan op de snelste manier. Reizen kan ook heel aangenaam zijn als alles vlot verloopt en je je kan wentelen in een beetje luxe. Van Langkawi naar Kuala Lumpur is maar een klein uurtje vliegen. Vervelend is het als de vlucht naar Auckland bijna 24 uur later is. Dan is het heerlijk om een nacht in het Pan Pacific Kuala Lumpur International Airport Hotel mag slapen. We moeten er hebben rondgekeken als Sjakie in de Chocoladefabriek. Luxe? s' Ochtends vroeg de New Strait Times in een klein linnen tasje hangend aan de deurknop vinden, dat vinden wij luxe.
Het is nu bijna twaalf uur in de middag. Onze vlucht is vanavond om tien uur. Gelukkig hoeven we de kamer pas om drie uur te verlaten. Daarna gaan we hier in de lobby lezen, wat drinken, eten en genieten van de 'grandeur' van dit hotel.
Peter told me he'd booked us a budget hotel in KL for the night. Imagine my surprise when after walking kilometers round the airport we ended up at the Pan Pacific. It is beautiful, truly like a 'grand hotel' and I don't mean the Grand in Eastbourne which is largely made up of narrow corridors, steps and big armchairs. This is airy, light and amazingly relaxing to be in. I keep thinking about the hotel stories James told us when he was in the middle East about how beautiful they were.
This evening on to NZ which has been in news lately with the balloon accident and the container ship that has broken in half off the east coast of North island spilling oil everywhere down that bit of coast. They say it is the worst maritime disaster ever for NZ. Our great advantage with this trip is that we are not bound by an itinery and can travel where we want. We may end up seeing much more of the South island as that is where the sun is at present. We'll see later. Thanks for your messages everyone, this is a great way to keep in touch.
